Good morrow my dear fellow! Now that you have happily found out about Dragon Fyre Faire, you may wonder, “What is this glorious event?” Dragon Fyre Faire is a whimsical, family friendly, renaissance faire.
What that entails: You will find many things themed in a medieval or renaissance era from displays to costumes and even the way people at the faire speak. However, because we are a whimsical faire you will also find mermaids, fairies, dragons and fantasy elements that may follow along with having mischievous pixies in your faire.
Family friendly you say? Yes, we keep everything in our faire to be safe for the whole family. Not that you want your toddler to wonder out into the fighting field during the sword fights; but the idea that the costumes, language, and entertainment will never be something you need to cover your young one’s eyes and ears for.
What will I do at your faire? Family Friendly means we will strive to have something for every age. When we plan our faire we want everyone to be entertained; your toddler in the stroller to the tired dad pushing her around.
- In the past we have had:
- sword fighting
- children’s quests
- fairy tea parties, musicians
- magicians
- belly dancers
- shopping
- face painting
- pony rides
- Pirate Contest
- dragon karaoke some years.
- We will keep our schedule updated as we confirm events for this year.
What should I wear or bring? You can come in your regular (mundane) clothing and fully enjoy the faire. You may also wish to dress up in costume (often called Garb) to enjoy the fire. You could be a fairy, a Medieval Lady or Knight, perhaps even a jester. Young children just like to dress up and we often have at least one child come through the gates as Spiderman each year. Regulations are: keep your costumes safe (no sharp weapons) and keep them Family Appropriate (visible private parts are for private times, not this event. When in doubt, go a bit more modest in your costume). What to bring: it is an outdoor event some come prepared for weather. Sunscreen, bug spray, extra sweater or blanket if the weather has been cold. We’ve had everything to scorching days to tornado warnings in the past years and it normally rains at least every other year. You will want to have spending money (most vendors do take debit cards but a few do not) and while we have delicious foods you can bring your own lunch in as well.
Can I bring my dog? Short answer is yes as long as you pick up after it. Long answer, please be kind to your dog and think if they will enjoy the event. There are loud noises, lots of people, strange smells, perhaps other animals, and some years extreme heat. If you have a friendly social dog than there is no reason you cannot bring it. If your dog is nervous, doesn’t like strangers, or is sensitive to hot weather it might do well to keep it home and enjoy the weekend without worrying about your furry family member. Also, dogs that are disruptive or threatening will be asked to leave (and since we do not advocate leaving dogs in vehicles you will be asked to please take your dog home and are welcome to return to the faire without them).
